LaRoche just got traded to the Braves. Lots of moving for him in just a week. The good thing, though, is that it might mean more playing time for Lowell and less time for Youkilis at third. The guy they traded LaRoche for is Casey Kotchman. He bats right handed, which means he'll probably only hit against lefties now.
Hey Eric,Love the blog! Also love Craig's blog, too, but have to point out that Casey Kotchman actually bats lefty, not righty, and so does Adam LaRoche. I'm still not sure why the Red Sox would trade one left handed hitting first baseman (LaRoche) for a different one (Kotchman). They're paying part of LaRoche's contract, so they're probably not saving money. Kotchman's a little better defender, hits for a slightly better average, but with less power than LaRoche. So the only thing I can figure is that they thought Kotchman would be happier as a role player, not starting every day, and LaRoche would not have been, and that together with his slightly better defense, the Red Sox viewed Kotchman as worth the extra money. Weird, but I hope it works for both teams.Good luck to the Blue Jays (even though I'll always be mad at them for beating the Braves in the World Series in 1991!),Nevin
